Two NPA men fall, another escapes in Sorsogon

Two members of the New People's Army's (NPA) were nabbed while one escaped pursuing authorities in Sorsogon province, radio dzMM reported Tuesday morning.

The report said Christopher Españo and Jason Galota were arrested in Looban village in Bulusan town. Both admitted being members of the NPA’s Celso Minguez Command during interrogation.

A third suspected NPA member identified only with his alias, Ka Albert, was able to flee.

Initial reports showed that Bulusan town and Sorsogon provincial police operatives pursued the men after receiving reports of "suspicious" activities being undertaken by the trio while staying in Looban village.

When the two men opened fire at the approaching policemen, operatives retaliated. The confessed NPA rebels were forced to surrender after a short exchange of fire.

Recovered from the arrested men were two .45-caliber pistols, a grenade, and ammunitions.

The radio report added that lawmen have yet to determine the mission of the three communist rebels.
